USDA hardiness zones

Illustrative USDA zone maps for Poland, Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Austria, the USA and Canada — divided into regions, with a colour scale from the coldest to the warmest zone.

USDA zones indicate the minimum winter temperatures and help you assess whether a plant can safely overwinter in a given region.

How to read the map

Each colour is one USDA zone — the warmer it is, the milder the winters. Find your region on the country map, read off the zone, then check a plant page for its “USDA min–max” range. If your zone falls within the plant’s range, it can overwinter outdoors in your region.

Illustrative map — approximate zones

Country outlines are real (simplified), but the zone division is an editorial simplification — the bands approximate reality, and local conditions (altitude, basins, urban heat) can differ by a zone. Treat the map as a guide, not a precise source.
